Advanced Up/Down Speed Properties

Posted: October 13th, 2015 in News

In the previous release, fundamental diagram customization added increased control over pedestrian movement by allowing users to define the relationship between speed and density. Pathfinder 2015.2 adds customization for stairs and ramps with independent up or down speed restrictions, and fundamental diagram customization.

A new Advanced option is located on the Edit Profiles dialog box on the Characteristics tab on the Speed field, as seen in Figure 2. Stairs and ramps can each have independent speeds for upward and downward movement. Each of these speeds can be defined as a constant fraction of the level terrain walking speed, or a fraction that is dependent on slope. Separately, the speed-density relationships are now independently available for up and down movement on stairs and slopes.

All of this customization allows for detailed regulatory compliance and improved accuracy of varying demographics. For example, Russian standards dictate 4 different profiles based on age and ability, such as occupants using crutches or wheelchairs. These profiles can be heavily affected by the slope of stairs or ramps which necessitates greater customization.

These new features are available as part of the Pathfinder 2015.2 update. Pathfinder will automatically notify users about future updates from the application, with links to additional information available on this site.
